CARDIFF: St Fagans: National History Museum. Tel: 029 2057 3500. Excellent attraction with regular kids holiday activities find out whats on here on their “Whats on”  page on their website. Popular are their ghost tours but the book up very quickly.

Built on the site of the former Elliot Colliery, the museum’s centre-piece is the original Victorian winding engine, which runs on the last Saturday of every month. This enormous piece of machinery gives you an insight into what it was like to work in the South Wales coalfield, right down to the engine oil and coal dust. They also make excellent coffee. Tredelerch LakeCARDIFF: in Splott, there’s a wildlife park just around the corner which has a 40,000 square meter lake at its heart. Parc Tredelerch, is found on the edge of Tremorfa. Keep an eye out for Bat walks at the Tredelerch Lake arranged by Cardiff Council usually between 8.30pm and 11pm. Discover the bats feeding around the lake using bat detectors.
