ABERGAVENNY: Black Mountain Falconry. Display by the Black Mountain Birds of prey often occur throughout the holidays, see Hawks, falcons, owls, vultures and red kites. Thes displays travel around South Wales. Tel: 01443 404699  www.blackmountainsfalconry.co.uk.

CARDIFF: Cardiff has a vast array of parks for picnics, walks, wildlife and just relaxing A full list is available here and its worth checking as there are often events listed on their website.

CWMCARN: Cwmcarn Forest Drive re-openened in June 2021 and features the Raven’s cafe.

As well as driving there are some excellent forrest trails for mountainbiking

CARDIFF: Enjoy the thrill of riding on miniature steam trains and tram around the beautiful area of Heath Park today and tomorrow. There will also be model railway layouts and refreshments today and tomorrow. Entrance is £2.80 and rides are £2.80 each (Card payment only). CAERPHILLY: Visit Caerphilly Castle this weekend and watch as the castle is brought to life with the sights, sounds and smells of the medieval world. NEW TREDAGER: The Winding House

Built on the site of the former Elliot Colliery, the museum’s centre-piece is the original Victorian winding engine, which runs on the last Saturday of every month. This enormous piece of machinery gives you an insight into what it was like to work in the South Wales coalfield, right down to the engine oil and coal dust. They also make excellent coffee. BARGOED: Discover the secrets of forest fun at Parc Cwm Darren with learning how to make a fire and cook on it. You can also attend the art attack activity where you will have a go at willow weaving and other art activities. Tel: 01443 875557.

CARDIFF: in Splott, there’s a wildlife park just around the corner which has a 40,000 square meter lake at its heart. Parc Tredelerch, is found on the edge of Tremorfa. Keep an eye out for Bat walks at the Tredelerch Lake arranged by Cardiff Council usually between 8.30pm and 11pm. Discover the bats feeding around the lake using bat detectors.
