Cardiff Cycling
Cardiff cycling has a long history as a sport. A fine example of this is Cardiff Ajax Cycling Club. The Club was started above Reg Braddicks cycle shop on Broadway Cardiff in 1948. It was Betty Braddick that named it Ajax after the Greek god who was fleet of foot. The 1970s Roger Pratt rode the Tour of Britain. Roger rode against a young Eddie Merckx on the Isle of Man. He was also in the Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games in Jamaica.
Cardiff Cycling – Road bikes
There is a great section on road bikes on this site with places for Cardiff cycling to be taken up and really appreciated and enjoyed. Perhaps the most famous Welsh exponent of road racing is Nicole Cooke who achieved nearly every sportspersons goal an Olympic Gold medal. Representing Great Britain at the summer Olympics in Bejing Nicole became the first Brit to win a road race Gold Medal. Nicole was born in Swansea and brought up to the west of Cardiff in Wick, (Vale of Glamorgan).
Geraint Thomas from Whitchurch Cardiff began cycling at 10 when he was at Whitchurch High School. He joined Maindy flyers before riding road bikes and cycling for other Cardiff Cycling clubs. Geraint won the British National Road Race Championships on road bikes before making his name in Track Cycling winning the Gold medal in the Team pursuit at Bejing in 2008 and again a second gold in the same event in London 2012.

Cardiff Cycling – Cycle tracks
There are several Cardiff cycling clubs that you can enjoy road and track bikes on. the larger cycle clubs even have the opportunity to cycle at the velodrome in Newport Cardiff has it own cycle track at Maindy stadium, the track is a little uneven due to subsidence many riders find this quite endearing though with the current rise in the sport it is unlikely to hold a national championships any more. Maindy stadium is home to the Maindy Flyers cycle club for young Cardiff cycling enthusiasts and many of the weekend touring rides start and finish here.
Cardiff Ajax Cycle Club
Operate from Maindy stadium and have Wednesday evening training sessions over the winter, the sessions start a 7.15pm
Mountain Biking and Downhill Racing
A major area of fun and thrills is the sport of mountain biking trails including Downhill racing, the Cardiff area is surrounded by places to enjoy mountain biking and downhill runs like Cwmcarn are fully covered by a description and location.
