Splott Car Boot Sale hit the national headlines in 2008 in the Daily Mirror, when at the start of the ‘credit crunch’, as the economic crisis became known, a man purporting to be a buyer, purchased a microwave for £10 at 6.30am.

However, an hour later, the seller was shocked to see the appliance on a rivals’ stall at a price of £25. A fierce & heated altercation ensued, which involved the two men tussling over the aforementioned microwave, after which it was agreed than an extra tenner would be paid by the original purchaser, who then immediately raised his price to £35!
