As mentioned there are a number of centres, sometimes known as a Dojo or Kwoon depending on which discipline is taught, across Cardiff offering a wide variety of martial arts in Cardiff.
The aptly named Cardiff Martial Arts, established in 2005, has four venues across the city located at Llanrumney High School, Channel View Leisure Centre, Pontprennau Community Centre & the Beacon Centre. Offering regular classes for adults in the Korean traditional martial art of Taekwon-do & Kickboxing, as well as a Little Dragons section for kids aged between 4 and 7, Cardiff Martial Arts has quickly established itself as one of the premier provider of its type in the area.
For those interested in Kung Fu, then Cardiff Central Kung Fu Club is the place to go to be schooled in this ancient art form. Teaching the Kung Fu style known as Shaolin Gaocan Mun Nam-Pai-Chuan, the system embraces several martial art techniques including punching, kicking, takedowns, throws, locking or combination thereof. The Cardiff Central Kung Fu Club is based at the Sport Wales National Centre (formally known as the Welsh Institute of Sport) in Sophia Gardens.
If you are not sure which Cardiff martial arts you would like to try, then it might be worth trying a few of them before you decide. Covering six different disciplines, the Cardiff Martial Arts Academy is the ideal place to have a go at Aikido,

Cardiff Martial Arts – Classes for Kids – Where to Find Them

As mentioned in the adult’s section above, there are a number of classes available for kids of all ages to try in the Cardiff area.
The Cardiff North Taekwondo School was formed in 2002 and caters for both boys and girls from the age of 5 and upwards. Based at the University Hospital of Wales in Heath Park, the school has an “enthusiastic and friendly population of students” learning the exciting Olympic sport of Tae kwon do and is a key centre for martial arts in Cardiff.
For something a little bit different than the more popular martial arts in Cardiff, you might look at an alternative such as the Hanmoodo Club. Based at Pontprennau Community Church Centre in Heol Pontprennau, Hanmoodo is a traditional Korean martial art, which incorporates Kendo (fencing with bamboo swords) and self-defence. It is an ideal activity to help develop agility; speed, concentration and most of all, self-confidence, in children age 5 years and upwards.
