From tapas and fast food to hearty breakfasts and traditional pub fare, there’s a wealth of choices for those seeking vegan delights. Here are some of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Wales.

Alex Gooch Bakery, Cardiff

Multi-award-winning baker Alex Gooch is known for his gorgeous bakery, where everything is plant-based, on Whitchurch Road in Cardiff. Expect flavour-packed treats such as smoked margherita pizza slices, loaded focaccia, cinnamon and raisin buns, and caramelised apple pies.

Vegan Filth, Cardiff

Vegan Filth, based in Cardiff’s student union, serves provocatively named junk food from the sleazy cheezy burger to the posh w**nker fries, which are delicious. They also appear in popup locations across south Wales and at food festivals.

Anna Loka, Cardiff

Anna LokaAfter closing their Albany Road site Anna Loka now operate out of a food van in the centre of Cardiff. The trailer is located in Working Street, right by St John’s Gardens and the entrance to Queen’s Arcade.

Currently it is takeaway only, however, in the summer Anna Loka is planning on having seating near the trailer available.

Wild Thing Cafe, Cardiff

Wild Thing Cafe in Cardiff is another great option. Wild Thing, located in Cathays Community Centre, is a haven for brunch lovers. Their menu is packed with seasonal dishes and they also offer Sunday lunch.

Luna’s Vegan Corner, Cardiff

This bistro on Wellfield Road is inspired by a passion for delicious food, conscious living and kindness to animals. Their diverse menu includes brunch options such as ocean chickpea sandwich and Luna’s mega brunch, starters such as mushroom pate, caramelised red chutney with toasted bread and mains such as mixed vegetable rogan josh and roasts available on a Sunday.

Bao Selecta, Cardiff

Selling stunning vegan bao buns in Cardiff Market is Bao Selecta. Their menu includes crispy beef bao buns which are vegan and so good many customers say they can’t even tell.

The Pie Box Cafe, Cardiff

A gorgeous vegan spot in Cardiff is The Pie Box. Located in Tudor Street they sell amazing pies, brunches and sweet treats which are all totally vegan. It is well worth a visit if you are in the Welsh capital.

Vegetarian Food Studio, Cardiff

Another Cardiff gem is the Vegetarian Food Studio, in Grangetown. This family run business began in 2003 as a small takeaway and is now a large restaurant.

Milgi Cardiff Market

Milgi is an independent restaurant open every day of the week, and they even have a newsletter you can sign up to in order to keep up to date with everything they do. All of their dishes are delicious, whether it’s a classic main course, lunch, or even just a bar snack.
